Carved stone multiple sculpture: jasper, cacholong, lapis lazuli, pyrope, yellow gold 18k, sterling silver 22k with 24k gold plating, stamped by the artist and numbered 1/4
Through a series of stone-cut carnival characters drawn from the rich world of symbolism and philosophical acting – pretentiousness, affectation, mockery and irony, combined with a slight sense of sadness and anticipation of tragedy – the work of Mikhail Chemiakin keeps evolving. His characters seem to balance on the border between reality and something vague, impossible, and almost mystical. The stone sculpture The Bird represents a zoomorphic image of a certain gentleman. The portrait is based on the stylized shape of a bust of brown jasper, the accentuated façade of the composition and the very fine details – the carved white jabot and white Kalmuck agate wig – as well as the gold epaulettes that enrich the color of the miniature. The sculpture is fixed on a hollow oval gilded silver plinth, the contrasting tone of which reinforces the one-of-a-kind nature of the piece.
Stamped by the artist and numbered 1/4 . From edition of 4.
