Carved stone multiple sculpture: cacholong, jasper, quartz, beloretsk quartzite, yellow gold 18k, sterling silver 22k with 24k gold plating, stamped by the artist and numbered 1/4
Through a series of stone-cut carnival characters drawn from the rich world of symbolism and philosophical acting – pretentiousness, affectation, mockery and irony, combined with a slight sense of sadness and anticipation of tragedy – the work of Mikhail Chemiakin keeps evolving. His characters seem to balance on the border between reality and something vague, impossible, almost mystical. The stone sculpture The Nose represents a character with a bizarrely exaggerated nose: long, twisted and disproportionate. Mikhail Chemiakin uses this repulsive, yet appealing, exaggerated quality to construct his artistic vision, creating his recognizable phantasmagoric images, attempting to subordinate reality to the power of his imagination.
Stamped by the artist and numbered 1/4 . From edition of 4.
